Atrocities on the Rise Globally

This article explains that atrocities—defined as widespread extrajudicial killings combined with other severe human rights violations—occur not only in autocratic states but also in democracies. Their 40‑year dataset shows that atrocities are increasing globally and often emerge gradually after long periods of escalating abuses.

 Senators are currently facing a vote on funding a budget including budgeting money to ICE and their detention centers they are building. We need  to let them know how we feel.

Right Wing Extremism A Global Issue

 Right-wing and far-right ideologies are experiencing a significant global surge, gaining power or influence across Europe (e.g., Italy, Hungary, Germany) and the Americas (e.g., USA, Argentina). Driven by populism, nationalism, and anti-globalism, this movement emphasizes strict immigration control, traditional values, and opposition to "woke" culture. 

Key Aspects of the Global Right-Wing Rise

• Regional Power Shifts: In Europe, far-right parties have gained significant electoral strength, with members in government in countries like Italy, Finland, and Hungary, and achieving high vote shares in France and Germany. In the Americas, right-wing leaders have held power in Brazil and Argentina, with a resurgence in the US.
• Ideological Drivers: The rise is fueled by a combination of anti-immigration sentiment, nationalism, and, in some cases, economic insecurity among "materialist" or "welferist" voters who feel left behind by globalization. The movement often opposes environmental policies, LGBTQ+ rights, and international institutions.
• Anti-Establishment Populism: These movements frequently position themselves against a perceived "new class" or elite, claiming to represent the "true people" against globalist forces.
• Transnational Networks: Far-right parties are increasingly forming international alliances, sharing strategies, and coordinating efforts to challenge liberal democratic norms. 

Global Trends and Characteristics

• Normalisation: Far-right parties are becoming more mainstream, often shifting from the fringes to central players, particularly in Europe where they are now, in some cases, the largest political family, winning significant votes on average 24% in recent elections.
• Impact on Public Health & Society: The rise of these movements has been linked to increased social division, negative impacts on population health, and denialist positions against science and environmental issues.
• Counter-Movements: The rise has triggered organizing from various sectors and social movements aiming to defend democratic values. 

The White Rose was made to counter this global threat. We meet in Second Life, a virtual world. 

People from all over the globe can come together in one place and interact virtually.

We also chose a meeting time that is accessible from multiple time zones. Noon SLT is 2pm central time, 

3pm eastern time, and approximately 8pm UTC (I believe).

We do focus a lot on what is happening in the USA but we also want to learn what is going on globally,

and fight together with like minded folks from all countries. We are definitely friendly and welcoming 

to international members and encourage an open dialogue. Tell us how USA policies are effecting

your country, how the United States is perceived abroad, and how Right Wing politics are effecting 

your own country. Let's work together to lift our voices for change.

 Welcome to The White Rose SL.

We are a group that meets in Second Life for political purposes.

We are inspired by a group of young people in Nazi Germany who called themselves The White Rose. They lost their lives for distributing pamphlets trying to fight against fascism and injustice. We give a friendly nod to the International White Rose Society- https://whiteroseinternational.com/ , where you can read more about the heroes involved.

We feel we may be seeing early signs of fascist tendencies rearing its ugly head again today, and authoritarianism for sure. We also see many signs of injustice around us. We are inspired by the story off the White Rose and wish to carry on fighting like they did. 

In modern times we don't need to print pamphlets to let our written words be heard. We can write in blogs, on websites, on bluesky and facebook and X, e-mail representatives, send group texts, and e-mails. There are so many ways we can write, and distribute, our words of resistance! The opportunities abound! The dangers still exist.  Could our words put us on some sort of watch list? Perhaps! We are living in dangerous times. But the internet also gives us cloaks of anonymity, where we can create pen names, and call ourselves silly things like "bluebuttduck".

Right wing extremism is taking over like a force, not just in the USA but world wide. I'd like to gather together all like-minded second life residents to join us to brainstorm ways we can use the mighty pen, or keyboard, to use our words to fight injustice, racism, violence, authoritarianism, fascism, and loss of freedom everywhere.
